An independent tied scaffold consists of two rows of standards positioned parallel to the building. The inner row is placed as close to the structure as possible, leaving enough space for at least one inside board—sometimes more, depending on the building’s needs. The distance between inside and outside standards is determined by the number of boards required.
Each row is connected by ledgers that support the transverse transoms. Although the scaffold is structurally independent from the building, it is securely tied to it at strategic intervals. Every standard row is also equipped with a solid base plate for stability.
Safe Structural Support
Diagonal braces are installed onto the ledgers or standards, while sway or longitudinal bracing is fixed across the scaffold face for added stability. The spacing of standards—creating the bay length—depends on the scaffold’s height and its intended load. Ledger spacing, or lift height, is typically 2 metres, though it may be increased when the standards can safely support the additional weight.
